WMWIFIRouter Error

leave a comment »

Here’s a not too obvious error message that was fairly frustrating for a while. I have been using WMWIFIRouter to share my 3G connection with my mac. Using it in Sydney, it worked perfectly without any configuration. But the first time I tried to use it in Bangkok I got the error

Access violation $0004D658

It looks like some sort of really nasty bug, but it turns out there is a simple fix in the configuration – Make sure the right connection is selected. The issue is related to the ordering of available connections – in Sydney, “Vodafone Internet” shows up before “Vodafone Internet (MMS)” and it works. In Bangkok “AIS MMS” Shows up before “AIS GPRS Internet” and it breaks.
